In a silent, meticulously ordered world run by SIMPLE, the corporation that makes everything, and seemingly makes everything happen — three strangers navigate lives shaped by quiet control.
A passionate painter injures his hand at a pivotal moment, only to find the accident reframed as opportunity; a tightly wound businesswoman’s carefully managed routine unravels after a sudden, inexplicable disruption at work; and an overworked janitor brings home a SIMPLE product whose cryptic warning label unsettles his growing family. As each are pulled together, a darkly playful portrait of control emerges; where the growing suspicion that nothing is entirely self-determined gives way to an amusing endorsement of artistic risk and playfulness.
Blending precise physical performance with a creeping sense of unease inspired by Jacques Tati, Terms of Service is a dark, silent comedy that explores the tension between control and autonomy in a world where everything is pre-defined.
A distinct directorial debut, it offers a sharply observed, visually driven vision of modern life — where the systems designed to simplify our existence may be quietly shaping it, and the joke is how close to home that realization feels.
