Based on Anton Chekhov’s renowned short story of the same name, A Work of Art lampoons its male characters for their misplaced morality, and their obsession with reputation and prestige.

A Physician is unexpectedly presented with a fabulous, but unsuitably erotic candelabra by a selfless patient. Unable to refuse, he elects to pass it on… to an acquaintance who also finds it embarrassingly inappropriate. As the cycle of evasion persists we come to realize the inevitable, and only, deserving home for this work of art, is with the only person who sees it as one.

A twisting tale of social chagrin, moral posturing, and artistic debate, this film concisely and humorously examines the propensity to let the opinions of others shape our actions.

Chekhov’s: A Work of Art premiered at the UDFF in Odessa, Ukraine in December 2022 where it was awarded Best Short Film. The film will embark on a festival run through Europe and North America in the Spring of 2023 before premiering online.
